About My Work
My current book project, “Imagine Lagos: Mapmaking and Representation in 19th-century West Africa,” is a spatial history of pre- and early colonial Lagos. It maps the ways indigenous peoples in Lagos shaped, destroyed and rebuilt their city in the tense competitions for political and economic power in the final decades of the transatlantic slave trade.
“Historical Tours of ‘New Lagos’:” special issue of the Journal of Comparative Studies of South Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.

“To be Female and Free,” in Power, Labor and Mobility: African Women in Atlantic Africa" eds Mariana Candido and Adam Jones, Oxford: James Currey.
