About My Work
Dr. Robert Cowherd is Professor at Wentworth Institute of Technology, Boston, USA. He is an architectural and urban historian and designer focusing on Southeast Asia and Latin America. His teaching and research connect long historical trajectories to global challenges. He is the author of “Batavian Apartheid: Mapping Bodies, Constructing Identities,” in _Southeast of Now_ 5, Nos. 1 & 2 (October 2021), 15–46; and “Bamboo Revolution” in _Dialectic IX_ (December 2021). In 2015, he was Visiting Associate Professor of History, Theory and Criticism at MIT teaching A Global History of Architecture, and 2014-2015 Fulbright Scholar pursuing research on the role of design in recent social transformations in Latin American cities. He is on the Board of the Global Architectural History Teaching Collaborative. Robert has a PhD in History and Theory of Architecture and an Urban Design Certificate from MIT, and a BArch in from The Cooper Union.
