About My Work
I am the Principal Investigator of the research project “Locating Global Protest against the Extreme Right: Anti-Fascism, Anti-Racism and Internationalism in Multiethnic Metropoles” (LGP) funded by the Research Council of Finland (Project number 355478; 2023–2027). The project analyses global anti-fascist and anti-racist protest in Cape Town, London, New York City and Chicago between the 1930s and the 1950s. The research compares multiethnic urban environments with global anti-fascist and anti-colonial efforts. The project will generate data on protests, rallies, and changing urban spaces as well as engage with critical discussions on urban imaginaries and practices of urban protest.

As a part of my ongoing project I am working on several articles, edited volumes and a research monograph on the antifascist city. I organised a first workshop on anti-fascist London in April 2024 together with prof. Nigel Copsey. We are working on a forthcoming edited volume called "Anti-Fascist London: Localising Global Resistance against the Far Right" (Routledge). My project organised an international conference at the University of Helsinki in June 2025 on "Imagining the Anti-Fascist City: Contested Geographies of Resistance and Solidarity". We are preparing an edited volume on the conference that thematises the concept of anti-fascist urbanism. I am together with professor Federico Finchelstein preparing a conference on Anti-Fascist New York in winter 2026-27 which will result in another edited volume on antifascist urbanism during the past century. Moreover as a part of my project I am writing a monograph that compares the urban antifascist experience in segregated spaces in Cape Town, London, NYC and Chicago, 1930-1960 expected to be published in 2028.
